Army Repels Attack Near Gesan, Sends Reinforcements

The Sudanese army on Saturday repelled for the fourth time in less than a month a heavy attack launched by an alliance of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North led by Abdelaziz Al-Hilu, targeting the strategic town of Amori near Qaisan in the Blue Nile region.

In a statement, the 4th Infantry Division in the Blue Nile said the 13th Infantry Brigade in Kouri, Eastern Sector, achieved a new victory after successfully repelling an attack by the militia and forces loyal to rebel commander Joseph Tuka on Amori. It said the assault was foiled and the attackers were forced to retreat under concentrated fire.

The statement added that the brigade engaged in intense fighting, demonstrating high combat efficiency and strong morale, inflicting heavy casualties and destroying several combat vehicles belonging to the attacking forces.

It said army troops also seized a number of military vehicles, weapons, and ammunition left behind by the retreating attackers, adding to battlefield gains secured by defending forces.

Military sources told Sudan Tribune that the attack on Amori was the fourth of its kind in less than a month, as the militia seeks to control the area in order to advance toward Qaisan, a strategically important locality.
