Army Captures Mahariya Leaders as RSF Offers Huge Sums for Their Release

The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Joint Force inflicted heavy casualties on the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia during a well-planned ambush on the desert front in North Darfur, killing and wounding dozens of fighters and capturing several senior commanders.

Field sources told the Shahid Ayan platform that a mobile force led by General Amir Joka carried out the operation after luring an RSF convoy into the ambush, destroying its combat vehicles, crippling its movement, and taking dozens of its fighters and officers prisoner.

The sources said RSF intelligence later offered substantial sums of money to secure the release of a number of the captured officers and soldiers, particularly those from the Mahariya tribe.

According to the sources, the militia’s leadership has been exerting intense pressure and making daily contacts to secure the prisoners’ release, focusing especially on field commanders and individuals closely related to RSF commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti).

The reports added that the surprise attack threw the militia into disarray, forcing the remaining fighters to flee deeper into the desert without military cover. SAF and the Joint Force are continuing sweeping ground operations, backed by drones, to pursue fleeing fighters, secure the area, and prevent further infiltration.
