Arab League, Jordan are tasked with preparing proposals to reconcile Sudan and UAE.

Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul-Gheit had revealed his expectations regarding the percentage of representation and attendance at the 34th regular Baghdad Summit at the presidents’ level, saying, “Attendance at the Arab Summit will not be complete at the presidents’ level. I want to say that attendance is determined the day before the summit. For example, next Friday, May 16, in the evening, we will know who will attend the eve of the summit. This is the norm.”

Aboul-Gheit said, during an interview with Egyptian journalist Lamis El-Hadidi on the ON channel regarding Arab-Arab differences and the severing of relations between Sudan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), “The Secretary-General of the League has a clause that allows him to put forward initiatives, and I, as Secretary-General, intervene in Arab disputes in accordance with the League’s Charter and my assessment of the situation, depending on the situation in each problem.” He continued, “Sometimes I take the initiative based on the situation on the ground. At that time, I see that we should be calm and take the initiative to resolve the disputes. Other times, there is no role. For example, the Algerian-Moroccan disputes. This has been a situation of disputes, discussions, and tensions for 50 years over the “Sahara” issue, and the parties to the problem do not prefer to intervene.” He added, “On the other hand, there are other matters and issues, such as the Sudanese-UAE crisis. The Arab League, along with Jordan, is tasked with preparing proposals to reconcile Sudan and the United Arab Emirates.”
