An anticipated meeting between the Democratic Bloc and Hamdok’s coalition

Sudanese political forces are making intensive efforts to keep pace with current developments in Sudan, especially following the army’s victories and the meeting of President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC), General Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan, with Trump’s senior advisor in Switzerland.

Khalid Omar, a leader in the Steadfastness Coalition, told Al-Shorrock: “The coalition has communicated with the Democratic Bloc over the past period through a message explaining their recently announced political vision. We requested a joint meeting to discuss the various political visions and ways to advance the peace process in Sudan.”

He added: “We look forward to the meeting being held as soon as possible, especially in light of the previous meetings between leaderships from the two coalitions in various forums, most notably the meeting held in Cairo in July of last year, which achieved a tangible breakthrough through the final statement of the conference.” Youssef welcomed Egyptian efforts to achieve peace in Sudan, saying: “We look forward to building on previous dialogues, particularly the first Cairo meeting, which constitutes an advanced starting point for completing the civil political dialogue.” Youssef emphasized that the only and least costly way out of the current crisis is a peaceful, negotiated political solution, which we will continue to call for and work to implement. Regarding regional and international efforts to cease the war in Sudan, the leader of the “Sumoud” coalition asserted that the Quadripartite Mechanism possesses numerous advantages, as it includes extremely important international and regional parties, which will create the appropriate conditions to push the warring parties to the negotiating table and help Sudan recover from its slump after peace is achieved.

For his part, Moataz Al-Fahal, a leader in the Democratic Bloc coalition, stated that since its inception, the bloc has consistently called for a comprehensive “Sudanese-Sudanese” political dialogue that excludes only those accused of war crimes and human rights violations. We believe that Sudan is the most appropriate venue for holding dialogue sessions, provided that all necessary guarantees are provided for its success, without any obstacles preventing the parties from participating.

Al-Fahal emphasized that the call to hold the forum in Sudan does not necessarily mean refusing to participate in the preliminary and preparatory meetings hosted by some of the capitals of neighboring, sisterly, and friendly countries.
