Ambush in Darfur Leaves RSF Members Injured and Weapons Seized in Attack on Commercial Convoy
Witnesses reported on Monday that two members of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia sustained serious injuries and had their weapons seized following gunfire targeting commercial trucks coming from the Regaibat border crossing with South Sudan en route to Darfur.
The Regaibat crossing is considered a vital supply route for the Darfur states, providing food supplies as well as serving as a humanitarian corridor for thousands of Sudanese refugees crossing into South Sudan.
According to eyewitnesses speaking to Darfur24, armed assailants opened fire on commercial vehicles, injuring two RSF members critically. The incident reportedly occurred in the “Toteloto” area of Bahr Al-Arab locality in East Darfur State, where the attackers intercepted trucks loaded with goods coming from South Sudan en route to Al-Daein, using a combat vehicle.
Witnesses said residents of the area rushed to the scene upon hearing gunfire, prompting the attackers to flee after seizing weapons from the military escorts, leaving the cargo behind.
