Al-Hilu executes three pastors by gunfire inside a church in Kauda

Three clergymen were killed in an armed attack targeting a Catholic church in Kauda, an area controlled by the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement–North (SPLM-N) led by Abdelaziz al-Hilu.
Eyewitnesses told Darfur24 on Saturday that armed men using combat vehicles stormed the church. The attack killed Father Yuhanna Al-Amin Nyarom, the parish priest of St. Vincent Church, along with two church servants, Yuhanna Markus and John Adam, who were responsible for guarding the church and its storage facilities.

A humanitarian worker told Darfur24 that the attack was carried out using combat vehicles. He added that armed groups in Kauda and Heiban do not possess such vehicles, while the SPLM-N forces are considered the only faction in the area equipped with them.

He said the region is experiencing a state of disorder amid efforts by authorities to resolve conflicts militarily, while neglecting the worsening humanitarian and economic situation.

The developments come amid heightened tensions in Kauda and Heiban since May 26, which have resulted in dozens of civilian deaths and injuries, as well as displacement and deteriorating humanitarian conditions.
