After a shortage of goods, El-Fashir Takiya stops receiving donations

Activists revealed on Saturday that El-Fashir Takiya (charitable kitchen) in North Darfur State has stopped receiving donations due to a shortage of goods in the city.

At least 300,000 civilians are trapped in the city without sufficient food, residing in 127 shelters and displacement camps, and approximately 42 residential neighborhoods.

The Resistance Coordination Committees in El-Fashir said, in a statement, that “the city’s Takiya has temporarily stopped receiving food donations for the city’s residents due to a shortage of basic goods.”

Hassan Sabir Jumaa, Director of the Displaced Persons (IDPs) Directorate at the Humanitarian Aid Commission (HAC), told Sudan Tribune that “99.9% of the shelters, gatherings, and residential neighborhoods in El-Fashir are outside the services of the Takiyas supported by philanthropists, due to a lack of transparency and integrity and the diversion of funds for personal gain.”

He explained that the funds raised by charitable organizations to save the lives of displaced people and citizens in El-Fashir, and that photos of women and children eating are posted daily on social media. However, he added, “it has become clear that the need is still very great.”
