Abdel Rahim Dagalo Tours Ethiopia with Abiy Ahmed and Replaces His Security Detail
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (Sudanese Echoes) – Media platforms have circulated a video showing Abdel Rahim Dagalo, the second-in-command of the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia, alongside Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed as they toured the streets of the Ethiopian capital in a vehicle driven by the prime minister himself. The footage has raised numerous political and military questions.
Meanwhile, exclusive sources have disclosed details of Dagalo’s recent movements, confirming that he is currently in the Ethiopian city of Assosa, where he arrived several days ago.
According to the sources, his visit is aimed at directly overseeing an emergency plan that includes the large-scale evacuation of fighters from the Mahariya tribe and their transfer to the Darfur Region to reinforce the militia’s command centres in South Darfur. These urgent security measures come in the wake of the militia’s battlefield setbacks amid the Sudanese Armed Forces’ steady and continued advance towards the outskirts of Darfur.
Field reports indicate that Dagalo is staying at a private country house belonging to Abdal-Wahab Al-Mahri, the militia’s intelligence chief on the Blue Nile front, in Assosa. The residence is under tight security provided by a replacement foreign security company, following Dagalo’s decision to replace his previous security detail, which was headed by a Libyan national.
The sources attributed this stringent measure to the second-in-command’s persistent anxiety and suspicions that people within his inner circle might betray him.
The sources confirmed that Abdel Rahim Dagalo remains in Assosa, while the militia’s leadership has imposed strict restrictions on the movements and residence of intelligence chief Abdal Wahab Al-Mahri until further notice.
