A journalistic investigation has disclosed dangerous and shocking facts and information about a global mafia smuggling the world-famous and sought-after Sudanese gum arabic, in coordination with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia, which has seized all gum arabic farms in Darfur and Kordofan.
According to an investigation by Sudanese Echoes, the mafia is offering Sudanese gum Arabic for sale at low prices through fake gum exchanges in several African countries, including South Sudan, Chad, the Central African Republic, Niger, and Nigeria, exploiting the border security vacuum caused by the war.
As a result, the price of a ton of Sudanese gum arabic, known as Hashab gum, has fallen by 65%.
The investigation, conducted through sources connected with the production and trade of gum arabic, revealed that Sudanese gum Arabic is being offered for sale, due to the war, without any documentation, a sustainability certificate (CEDEX), or documents proving its country of origin, which is Sudan.
Major international confectionery companies purchase gum Arabic from smugglers, including the RSF militia.
