Electricity Company Announces Extended Outages in Khartoum After ‎Al-Markhiyat Station Attack

The Sudanese Electricity Distribution Company has announced the ‎implementation of an exceptional and relatively extended load-‎shedding schedule across all sectors of Khartoum State, including ‎Khartoum, South Khartoum, Bahri, and Omdurman, following severe ‎damage and technical faults affecting the national distribution ‎network, power stations, and major transmission lines.‎

On Tuesday, Al-Markhiyat Power Station, northwest of Omdurman, ‎was hit by a drone strike, cutting off electricity to the capital, ‎Khartoum. It was the seventh attack on power stations in less than a ‎week.‎

In an explanatory statement, the General Administration of ‎Distribution in Khartoum State expressed its deep regret and ‎apologized to subscribers and citizens for the repeated and prolonged ‎power outages in recent days.‎

The company explained that the extent of the damage to the ‎electricity system required a comprehensive and urgent engineering ‎response to ensure the safety and sustainability of the network. It ‎confirmed that the current load-shedding schedule would remain in ‎effect until all damage and technical faults had been fully addressed ‎and the affected transmission lines rehabilitated.‎

The statement added that all the company’s technical and engineering ‎teams had been mobilized and were working around the clock at full ‎operational capacity to overcome these exceptional circumstances ‎and restore electricity to normal as soon as possible.‎

The company expressed appreciation for citizens’ patience and ‎understanding, reiterating its apology for the inconvenience caused by ‎the mandatory power cuts required to protect the network and carry ‎out the necessary technical work.‎
