RSF Militia Supplying ISIS with Heavy Weapons and Ammunition, Sudan Tells UN Security Council
Sudan has documented the arrival of ammunition and heavy weapons for gold-smuggling groups in the Sahel region linked to ISIS, as well as the transfer of heavy weapons to the Islamic State in the Greater Sahara (ISGS).
Sudan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, Ambassador Al-Harith Idris Al-Harith, briefed the UN Security Council during a session dedicated to discussing the situation in Sudan.
In his briefing, Al-Harith said Sudan had documented the sale of ammunition destined for the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia, which subsequently reached groups involved in gold smuggling in the Sahel and linked to ISIS.
He added that Sudan had documented the transfer of DShK and DKT heavy machine guns and rocket launchers to groups and individuals linked to ISGS and the Azawad Liberation Movement.
Al-Harith explained that the organization had been awaiting the arrival of 25 drones and had used a site southwest of Kufra in Libya, along with facilities near the city’s airport, to receive foreign fighters and modify vehicles. He also pointed to a marked increase in the number of Ilyushin Il-76 aircraft recorded in Kufra, rising from 10 flights between April 2024 and March 2025 to 143 in December 2025.
He said the war of aggression against Sudan had evolved into a transnational criminal enterprise and had revived a war economy driven by material gains through a network allied with the militia. The price of a DShK heavy machine gun, he noted, ranged from $5,000 to $15,000, with transactions settled in kind through fuel, gold, vehicles, and drugs.
