In Recorded Address That Rocked Abu Dhabi Conference, Sudan Accuses UAE of Funding War and Rejects Its Hosting of UN Forum
Sudan’s Attorney General, Intisar Ahmed Abdel-Aal, delivered a recorded statement to the 15th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
In her address, she outlined Sudan’s position on the violations against the country, as well as national efforts to combat crime and promote criminal justice.
She explained that Sudan had come under attacks by an armed militia, stressing that the Sudanese government maintains its position that the United Arab Emirates provided direct support to that militia, contributing to the prolongation of the war and the violations of international law and international humanitarian law that accompanied it.
In this context, she reiterated Sudan’s rejection of the hosting of this international forum on crime prevention and criminal justice in the UAE, stressing that this position is based on legal, principled, and ethical considerations concerning the need for the hosting of international forums to be consistent with the objectives and principles for which they were established, particularly the protection of the rule of law, respect for international law, international humanitarian law, and the Charter of the United Nations.
She stressed that Sudan is not raising this issue as a political dispute, but rather as a matter directly related to the principles of international criminal justice and the international community’s responsibility to promote respect for the law and ensure accountability for those responsible for crimes and violations.
