UAE Opens Fifth Camp to Train Mercenaries in Ethiopia

The Commissioner of Al-Kormuk Locality, Abdel-Aati Mohamed Al-Faki, on Monday renewed accusations that Ethiopia was continuing to support the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia and allowing its territory to be used to receive and train groups of mercenaries.

He said large numbers of mercenaries arrived on Sunday at the “Fana” camp in Ethiopia’s Benishangul-Gumuz Region after being transported by air through Assosa Airport.

The Commissioner of Al-Kormuk had previously said that around four camps for training militia fighters and foreign mercenaries were operating inside Ethiopian territory, in addition to facilities he said were being used for supply operations and drone operations with Emirati support.

Al-Faki said in a press statement that the Fana camp in Ethiopia’s Benishangul-Gumuz Region received large groups of mercenaries on Sunday, brought in by Abu Dhabi by air via Assosa Airport.

He explained that the camp is located very close to the town of Al-Kormuk, warning that the continued use of Ethiopian territory to assemble and train these forces poses a direct threat to security and stability in the region as a whole.

The commissioner called on the regional and international communities to take a firm position on what he described as continued external support for the RSF and to prevent the use of the territories of neighboring countries as launchpads for military operations inside Sudanese territory.
