African Union Welcomes and Endorses Sudan’s “Internal Dialogue”

The African Union (AU) Commission, in an official statement, announced its full welcome and endorsement of the launch of a comprehensive political initiative aimed at facilitating a Sudanese-Sudanese dialogue to be held entirely within Sudanese territory, with the objective of ending the armed conflict and steering the country toward safety and stability.

The Commission underscored the key foundations and requirements for the success of the political process. The African Union stressed that the dialogue must be independently owned and led by Sudanese stakeholders, under the supervision of a committee of “Sudanese Elders.”

The AU Commission called for the participation of all political, civil, and societal forces, as well as national actors, to ensure the formulation of sustainable solutions.

The statement identified the ultimate goal as preserving Sudan’s unity and sovereignty and establishing democratic governance led by legitimate civilian institutions.

The statement further explained that the dialogue directly advances the African Union’s roadmap and the outcomes of the “Quintet Mechanism” aimed at ending the armed crisis.

The African Union reaffirmed its support for the Sudanese people in their aspirations for peace, stability, and justice, expressing its readiness to provide the necessary support and assistance to ensure the success of this historic national process.
