Mortars, Rocket Launchers and Explosives: Major Weapons Cache Seized in Kassala State

 

Authorities in Kassala State seized a large quantity of weapons, ammunition and stolen vehicles early Tuesday, including heavy weapons, mortars and explosive devices.

A local source told Ultra Sudan that a joint force comprising the Security Police, the state’s Criminal Investigations Directorate, the Armed Forces and the General Intelligence Service seized weapons from houses in Abu Dahan and Noura neighborhoods of Kassala following several days of surveillance and investigations.

The source said the seized items included mortars, explosive devices, five mortar rounds, five rocket launchers and a DShK heavy machine gun, in addition to an uncounted number of rifles. The seizure also included three pickup trucks and two motorcycles.

Accounts affiliated with the security authorities in Kassala said the seizure included five RPG launchers, five mortars, a Kornet anti-tank missile system, a DShK machine gun, and large quantities of RPG rounds. The authorities also seized five vehicles and arrested four suspects.
