Army Repels Major RSF Flanking Assault Near El-Geneina
The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), backed by the Joint Forces of the armed struggle movements and Popular Resistance forces, have repelled a large-scale assault launched by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia on the strategic area of Bir Seleiba, about 30 kilometers north of El-Geneina, the capital of West Darfur State.
According to military sources, fierce fighting raged for several hours from early morning until midday after the RSF launched a major two-pronged flanking attack.
One force advanced from the north of Kulbus, while another moved from Bir Seleiba, seeking to surprise the forces stationed at Bir Seleiba and break their defensive positions.
The SAF and Joint Forces, however, were prepared for the assault and successfully thwarted the maneuver, inflicting heavy losses on the attacking force during fierce clashes around the area.
Darfur Governor and Joint Forces Commander-in-Chief Minni Minnawi said in a Facebook post that the coordinated action of the SAF, Joint Forces, and Popular Resistance had delivered a strong setback to the RSF militia and those supporting it. He hailed the battlefield success, stressing that “land cannot be seized through deception, nor can it be intimidated by large numbers,” and described the ongoing fighting as an existential battle for the freedom of the Sudanese people and the protection of their homeland.
