Four Killed in Clashes After Kauda Prison Raid

Four civilians were killed on Saturday after clashes erupted in Al-Lira area near Kauda in South Kordofan State, one day after a group from the Otoro community attacked a prison and freed 98 inmates.

Al-Lira is the residence area of Abdel Aziz Al-Hilu, the leader of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement–North (SPLM-N).

Sources told Darfur24 that clashes broke out on Friday in Al-Lira between armed members of the Otoro group and the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA-N), the military wing of the SPLM-N.

The sources said the four fatalities, including an elderly man and two women, were killed during the clashes that took place in the area.
They added that the Otoro group had imposed a blockade on the area since July 30, demanding that the SPLA-N withdraw and evacuate the region. However, SPLA-N commanders rejected the demands, leading to armed confrontations between the two sides.

In a related development, sources reported that armed elements affiliated with the Otoro group attacked Kudi prison on July 30 and managed to free 98 inmates, including members of the same group.
