Panic Grips Nyala as Armored Vehicles Patrol City Streets

Nyala is experiencing a climate of heightened tension as security operations continue, with armored personnel carriers and military vehicles belonging to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) conducting intensive patrols across the city under the movement’s “Command and Control” campaign, which has entered its second week and is aimed at regulating military vehicles.

Local residents told Darfur24 that the ongoing security campaign has involved the widespread deployment of checkpoints and inspection posts across central Nyala and its outlying neighborhoods. The inspections have targeted both civilian and military vehicles, while authorities have also prohibited the wearing of the kadmool, a face covering commonly worn in the region.

Residents said they had observed armored vehicles and military personnel carriers patrolling the city’s streets throughout the past week.

In a related development, a military official involved in the Command-and-Control campaign told local media that the operation had led to the seizure of more than 300 combat vehicles operating within the city without permits or official documentation. The official said the unauthorized vehicles had posed a significant security risk to Nyala.
