Dozens of Civilians Killed in Desert Ambush in Darfur
Families and community leaders in North and South Darfur states reported the killing and disappearance of dozens of civilians after a passenger convoy was ambushed in the desert between the towns of Tina and Al-Dabba, while sources within the Joint Force said the convoy was intercepted by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia two days after departing Tina.
The militia had broadcast video footage showing civilians being questioned about their names, places of residence, and tribal affiliations, while other clips showed the shooting of a number of them.
A Joint Force source in the town of Tina said that four passenger vehicles of the “Land Cruiser” type left the town on June 18 heading to Al-Dabba, accompanied by three vehicles belonging to the Joint Force on an administrative mission to eastern Sudan.
He added that the militia intercepted the convoy in the desert, where two civilian vehicles and one Joint Force vehicle managed to escape, while the remaining Joint Force vehicles were destroyed and the attacking forces seized the other two passenger vehicles.
