Seleka Forces Seize Om Dafog

Converging local sources reported that forces of the rebel Seleka coalition in the Central African Republic seized the African town of Om Dafog, adjacent to Sudan, on Tuesday morning, in a new development that could further exacerbate security tensions along the border area.

Seleka forces had seized the areas of Om Karmaya and Beer Suleiman last Saturday following armed clashes with government forces and allied Russian forces.

The sources told Darfur24 that the attack began at 6:00 a.m. from the Al-Dahn border area with Sudan, where Seleka forces, led by Noureddine Adam, commander of the Popular Front for the Rebirth of Central Africa, and with the participation of field commander Abdullah Juma, known as “Zango,” launched a large-scale assault on the town.

The sources added that the clashes resulted in casualties, while about 40 wounded people were evacuated to Om Dafog Hospital on the Sudanese side. They also reported that six people died after the injured arrived at the hospital, while civilians sought shelter at the United Nations mission compound in the town.
