Strict Security Measures Issued to End Armed Presence and Military Indiscipline in Khartoum

A Sudanese committee tasked with enforcing state authority and strengthening security on Saturday decided to take firm action against all security violations committed by military personnel inside the capital, Khartoum. It also stressed the removal of all armed manifestations from the capital and the prohibition of carrying weapons in public areas.

Khartoum has recently witnessed the spread of combat vehicles inside markets and residential neighborhoods, in addition to the presence of armed personnel—mostly affiliated with groups allied to the army—blending with civilians, despite earlier decisions to clear the capital of armed presence.

The meeting was chaired by Defence Minister Hassan Dawood Kabroun, and attended by Interior Minister Babiker Samra Mustafa, Khartoum State Wali Ahmed Othman Hamza, Deputy Chief of Staff for Administration Abdelkhair Abdullah Nasser, and Deputy Police Director-General and Inspector General Al-Tahir Ali Mohamed Al-Baloula, along with other committee members.

According to the committee’s media spokesperson, Brig. Gen. Fath Al-Rahman Mohamed Al-Toum, the meeting discussed several issues related to clearing Khartoum State of military formations, collecting weapons, securing the state, and removing informal settlements, noting that the decisions aim to restore security, stability, and state authority.

He added that the immediate decisions include firm action against all security violations by military or civilian actors, removal of negative phenomena, a ban on carrying weapons, and a prohibition on the use of motorcycles.
