Sudan Begins Implementation of El Khair Port Expansion Project to Receive Giant Oil Tankers
The Sudanese Sea Ports Corporation (SPC) has announced the commencement of the second phase of El Khair Port terminal (2) project, with a cost of 57 million dollars, in preparation for receiving ultra-large crude oil tankers.
El Khair Port, located in the city of Port Sudan in eastern Sudan, is the country’s main facility specialized in handling and unloading petroleum products, serving as a vital lifeline for national energy supplies.
In a statement, the Sea Ports Corporation said its Director, Gailani Mohamed Gailani, “laid the foundation stone for the implementation of the second phase of El Khair Port terminal (2) construction project, at a cost of 57 million dollars.”
It indicated that the project is being implemented by Tridel Technologies, as part of the SPC efforts to develop port infrastructure and enhance operational efficiency.
Gailani stated that El Khair Port terminal (2) project represents a strategic step and a vital undertaking serving the national economy. He added that it will contribute to strengthening the port’s handling capacity, reducing logistics costs, and saving significant amounts of foreign currency for the state.
