SAF Air Defenses Intercept Militia Drones Over Khartoum
Air defense systems of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) on Tuesday intercepted drones flying over the skies of Khartoum State amid explosions heard across Omdurman and Khartoum Bahri.
The interceptions came following a series of drone attacks targeting Khartoum International Airport and power facilities, prompting the military to deploy air defense systems that successfully protected the capital from subsequent strikes.
Eyewitnesses told Sudan Tribune they heard explosions in northern Khartoum Bahri and northwestern Omdurman, where key military headquarters are located. They also reported seeing air defense missiles intercept loitering munitions and a strategic drone operating over Omdurman and East Nile, east of the Sudanese capital.
According to military sources, a drone operated by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia attempted to target military positions northwest of Omdurman before being intercepted by ground-based air defenses, preventing it from reaching its targets.
The same sources said air defense systems also engaged strategic drones in East Nile, with no casualties reported.
The Sudanese Army has not issued an official statement regarding the attempted drone attacks on multiple sites in Khartoum State, while the Rapid Support Forces has not claimed responsibility for the operations.
