Umma Party Orders Leadership Return to Sudan and Refers “Sumoud” Members for Accountability

The National Umma Party (NUP) said its leadership has issued an order for all senior officials to return immediately to Sudan, while referring members who joined the “Sumoud” coalition for internal accountability procedures.

Deputy Chairman of the National Umma Party, Lieutenant General Siddig Ismail, said that the party’s outgoing acting president, Fadlallah Burma Nasir, had deviated from his mandate and taken positions that undermine the party’s principles and stance.

Speaking to Al Arabiya/Al Hadath on Sunday, Ismail said Nasir had aligned himself with the “Ta’asis” alliance and turned against the army that he had previously supported, adding that the termination of his mandate was decided unanimously by the party’s leadership body.

He also accused the Forces of Freedom and Change (FFC) of contributing to the country’s current crisis, saying their approach led to the situation Sudan is now facing. He noted that the coalition later evolved into “Tagadum,” which split into “Sumoud” and “Ta’asis,” describing it as exclusionary and politically incapable.

Ismail confirmed that members of the party who joined these alliances had acted against internal directives and would be referred to the party’s oversight and discipline committee.

He further said a decision had been issued requiring party leaders to return to the country to engage with grassroots supporters and contribute to peace, stability, and civilian transition, stressing that the party rejects political exclusion and unilateral judgments among political forces.

He added that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia was originally part of the state’s armed structure before rebelling against it, stating that only the Sudanese Armed Forces have the authority to determine how to deal with the rebellion, and rejecting any political role by other parties in deciding the RSF’s future.
