Army Completes Preparations to Storm the “Triangle” as Militia Evacuates Gold Mines

Four separate sources revealed major military mobilizations by the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia in the border triangle area linking Sudan, Libya, and Egypt, amid indications that both sides are preparing for new battles in the strategically important region.

A senior Sudanese military source told Darfur24 that the army has completed its ground and aerial preparations to launch an offensive on the Triangle through several combat axes, with support from the “Joint Force,” with the aim of retaking the area and Al-Atrun base in the desert of North Darfur State.

The source added that the army’s plan seeks to restore control over the Triangle as a prelude to recapturing areas in the Darfur region.

Meanwhile, a source within the militia claimed to Darfur24 that the RSF militia had deployed military reinforcements exceeding 400 combat vehicles, in addition to modern jamming systems, noting that part of its forces had been redeployed from Kordofan and Darfur toward the border triangle.

The source also confirmed the return of the militia commander in the region, Abdullah Goroosh, from a foreign visit, coinciding with escalating military movements by both sides. He stated that the RSF militia had received information about Sudanese army mobilizations in “Karb Al-Toum, Al-Khannaq, and Al-Dabbah,” as well as several villages, in preparation for an attack on the Triangle.

Witnesses and local miners reported that the militia had ordered workers at gold mines surrounding the Triangle to leave the area, while imposing strict security measures and restricting daytime movement due to intensified drone activity.

The border triangle is considered a vital area because it contains commercial crossings linking Sudan with the Libyan city of Kufra, in addition to the spread of gold mines throughout its surroundings.
