Five Civilians Killed in Drone Strike South of Omdurman
A Sudanese rights group announced on Saturday that at least five civilians were killed in a drone strike carried out by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), targeting a civilian vehicle south of Omdurman.
RSF drones have reportedly resumed activity over the capital, Khartoum, after months of relative lull. Over the past three days, they have targeted several sites in Jebel Aulia, south of Khartoum, signaling a renewed escalation in aerial operations.
Concerns are mounting that such attacks could impede government efforts in the capital aimed at restoring stability, rebuilding war-damaged infrastructure, and preparing conditions for the return of residents who have been displaced for more than two years due to deteriorating security and intensified fighting.
The Emergency Lawyers group said in a statement that a militia-operated drone struck a civilian vehicle on Saturday morning along the Triangle of Al-Jamou’iya road in the southern rural area of Omdurman. The vehicle was reportedly coming from the Sheikh Al-Siddiq area in White Nile State.
The attack resulted in the deaths of all five passengers on board, all of them civilians.
The group stated that the incident reflects a continuing pattern of attacks targeting civilians on public roads and in populated areas, further exacerbating the humanitarian situation and widening risks to civilian life.
