Sudan’s Foreign Ministry Completes Full Relocation to Khartoum
A senior diplomatic source confirmed that the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has fully completed its relocation to the capital, Khartoum, at a rate of 100%, and has already begun carrying out its duties from its premises within the national capital, in a step reflecting the return of diplomatic activity to its natural center. The source explained that a limited coordination office will remain in Port Sudan, comprising a document authentication unit and part of the protocol directorate, to follow up on the affairs of embassies that are still operating from the temporary administrative capital.
The source told Al-Mohaqiq news outlet that the ministry has begun rehabilitating its old premises in Khartoum through extensive structural maintenance and comprehensive refurnishing, particularly for embassies that own their buildings. As for missions that relied on rented premises, they have already started searching for ready and suitable alternatives to serve as official offices and residences for diplomats, in line with the requirements of international representation.
The source added that the process of preparing and operating diplomatic mission premises faces technical and logistical complications, due to the necessity of involving the foreign ministries of the concerned countries in selecting and preparing them in accordance with each country’s protocol standards, which requires time to ensure that the premises meet approved diplomatic specifications.
