Rising Armed Robberies Paralyze Trade Between Nyala and El-Fashir

Recent days have seen a dangerous surge in insecurity and organized looting targeting civilians and commercial convoys on the road linking the cities of Nyala and El-Fashir, leading to a complete halt in economic activity across large areas of North and South Darfur states.

Local sources told Darfur 24 that the route stretching from the area of Al-Malam to Shangil Tobaya has become the scene of repeated armed attacks. Witnesses reported that a passenger bus heading to the weekly Al-Malam market was attacked by gunmen last Saturday, leaving several civilians injured and all their belongings looted at gunpoint.

In response to the deteriorating situation, the native administration in Shangil Tobaya issued a decision suspending all commercial activities and movement with neighboring areas in order to protect the lives and property of citizens.

Local traders confirmed that vital commercial routes have come to a complete standstill, raising fears of a severe supply crisis in local markets due to the disruption of supply chains.
