Sudanese Government Warns Aid Agencies Against Dealing with Militia’s Humanitarian Arm

The Sudanese government on Wednesday warned foreign humanitarian organizations against interacting with the “Sudanese Agency for Relief and Humanitarian Operations,” affiliated with militias, describing such engagement as a violation of Sudanese sovereignty and an implicit recognition of parallel institutions outside the legitimate authority.

The agency currently handles relief distribution and issues permits to international organizations in Rapid Support Forces-controlled areas of Darfur and Kordofan.

Sudan’s Humanitarian Aid Commissioner, Salwa Adam Beniyah, urged international humanitarian organizations operating in the country to comply with national laws and policies governing humanitarian work, avoid interference in internal affairs, and maintain neutrality in their operations.
