Sudan’s Interior Minister: Ousted President Al-Bashir Now Under Police Supervision

Sudanese Interior Minister Lieutenant General Babiker Samra said Wednesday that security in Khartoum is stable following the police deployment, allowing citizens to return to their daily lives.

In an interview with the BBC, reported by correspondent Mohamed Mohamed Othman, the minister said the police had “rescued the Sudanese identity” by restoring the civil registry. He downplayed concerns over the rising cost of official documents, describing fees as symbolic compared with other government agencies.

The minister also revealed that most prisoners who escaped after the outbreak of war have been recaptured, including former President Omar Al-Bashir and several of his aides. He confirmed that Al-Bashir is currently under police and judicial supervision.

Lieutenant General Samra added that the government does not intend to reinstate the Public Order Law, emphasizing that ongoing police operations are focused on protecting citizens.
