US Secretary of State: Trump Is Personally Overseeing the Sudan War-Ending File
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that President Donald Trump is personally following the file of ending the war in Sudan — a signal, according to observers, that the issue has become one of the priorities of the current US administration.
The remarks came during the US government’s final meeting of the year, where multiple foreign-policy issues were discussed.
President Trump had stated last November, during his participation in the Saudi-US Investment Forum, that he would work to stop the war in Sudan. His comments came after a direct request from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for US intervention and assistance in resolving the ongoing conflict.
At the time, the Sudanese government welcomed the Saudi and American efforts aimed at supporting the path toward peace, and affirmed its readiness to engage with any regional or international initiatives that could help end the war and achieve stability in the country.
