Ground clashes between SAF and RSF militia extend near El-Fashir Airport

Ground clashes extended on Friday in El-Fashir to the airport area, near the headquarters of the 6th Infantry Division, after the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) launched a new attack from several directions.

While pro-militia platforms claimed they had reached the airport, the joint force denied these reports, describing them as rumors, and asserted its control over the military situation there.

Meanwhile, the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) stated on its official Facebook page that its forces “repelled a new attack launched by the Daglo family-owned militia, inflicting heavy losses on the enemy in lives and equipment. Those who remained fled, leaving their dead behind.”

Local sources reported to Sudan Tribune that the clashes in El-Fashir began with the RSF militia firing artillery shells intensively in the early morning hours, which landed in various parts of El-Fashir, including the headquarters of the 6th Infantry Division and defensive positions near El-Fashir University.

The sources added that the militia began attacking the army’s and the joint force’s defenses on the southwestern axis, as well as the northern hub, where fierce fighting erupted between the warring parties around El-Fashir Airport, located south of the city.

The joint force confirmed its full control over El-Fashir Airport and stated in a statement that rumors circulating by the Rapid Support Forces militia about its control of the strategic facility were false.

The force added that all attempts to infiltrate and destabilize the airport’s security had failed, stressing that the armed forces and the joint force were fully prepared to repel any attack.
