US State Department: We are committed to supporting a dialogue that leads to peace and ends the suffering of the Sudanese people

The US State Department of State affirmed the United States’ commitment to supporting a dialogue that leads to peace and ends the suffering of the Sudanese people.

In response to a question from Al-Shorrock regarding media reports concerning a recent meeting between President of Sudanese Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC), General Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan, and the US President’s Senior Advisor for African Affairs, Massad Boulos, in Switzerland, the US State Department said in a written statement: “We will not discuss our diplomatic conversations.”

The Department clarified that Washington continues to communicate with the parties and their representatives through various diplomatic channels, adding: “We will not delve into the details of these conversations.” The Department also affirmed the United States’ commitment to supporting a dialogue that leads to peace and ends the suffering of the Sudanese people. Last week, Agencie France-Presse quoted a senior government source as saying that an unannounced meeting was held in Switzerland between the Sudanese army commander and the US president’s Senior advisor for African affairs to discuss a US proposal for a comprehensive ceasefire and the delivery of humanitarian aid. The Sudanese government has yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
