Deadly Heat in Port Sudan… 41 Heatstroke cases in Just Two Days

Port Sudan has recorded 41 cases of heatstroke in just two days, according to the Central Committee of Sudanese Doctors, amid an unprecedented heatwave that has been hitting the coastal area for days.

The committee confirmed one death due to complications from heatstroke, raising concerns in the city, which already suffers from multiple service crises.

According to local medical reports, the vast majority of those affected suffered from heat exhaustion while walking in the streets or working outdoors.

The committee asserted that the injuries ranged from mild to moderate, while some cases were conveyed to the hospital for intensive care. It noted that some of those affected suffer from chronic illnesses, which increases the risk of exposure to extreme heat, in the existence of poor ventilation and a lack of electricity, which exacerbate the crisis.

Port Sudan is experiencing a heatwave this week, with temperatures exceeding 48 degrees Celsius, coupled with high humidity, which increases the sensation of heat and augments the risk of heatstroke.
