Sudan offers 20 oil wells to Russian companies

Sudan is heading towards signing agreements for industrial, commercial and oil projects through contracts concluded with Russian companies as an alternative to Western companies. The package includes exploration for more than twenty oil wells in safe areas despite the ongoing war since April 2023.

EMinister of Oil and Gas Mohi-Eddin Naeem told Al-Araby Al-Jadeed that his country has put the final touches on its agreement with Russia to invest in the energy and oil sector in safe areas, the Red Sea and western Sudan.
The minister listed the projects that were agreed upon, including developing hydro and thermal generation in the Merowe Dam project to provide 120 barrels of fuel per day, completing the heightening of the Roseires and Sennar dams, and bringing modern Russian refineries to Sudan in the coming period, in addition to exploring for gas in eastern Sudan, especially the Red Sea.

The minister considered Russia’s presence in the Red Sea important due to the presence of modern technology in the field of gas. He added: “We requested sending floating barges to the Red Sea State to enhance electricity generation in the city of Portsudan.” He pointed out that a team from both sides will be sent to strengthen the agreements, and they will see the light soon.
