4,549 Sudanese Seek Political Asylum in Israel

The Israeli Immigration Authority revealed that tens of thousands of foreign workers are seeking recognition as political refugees in Israel, as authorities seek to eliminate them.

The Immigration Authority reported that approximately 30,000 foreign workers had submitted official requests for recognition as political refugees by the end of last June.

According to the data, among those seeking asylum were 6,371 workers from Eritrea, 4,549 from Sudan, 3,730 from Russia, 2,145 from Sri Lanka, 1,186 from Ethiopia, 1,118 from India, and 1,053 from Belarus, and others.

“In addition to the chaos prevailing in the foreign labor and economic sector, the issue of political asylum has preoccupied the state with surreal matters,” said Hava Eti Attia (Likud), chairwoman of the Knesset’s Foreign Workers Committee. “This labor force is supposed to help us face the difficulties of this stage, but instead it has created new problems for us.”
