Finance Minister Gebreil Ibrahim has heralded state employees and pensioners that they would be paid 100% of their salaries instead of 60%, which the ministry has been following since the start of the April 2023 war.
Meanwhile, the minister revealed an agreement with the World Bank to provide grants to support health, education and social protection.
The Minister of Finance said, during a joint press conference on Tuesday with a number of ministers, that the ministry had succeeded in sparing the country from economic collapse and had succeeded in running the economy during difficult circumstances.
Gebreil attacked finance ministers in some states and accused them of failing to develop and increase their own resources despite the support provided to them by the federal Ministry Finance.
He said, “If you cannot do that, then what is the point of your existence at all?”
Meanwhile, the minister acknowledged the scarcity of banknotes, stressing that it will gradually decrease. He asserted that banknotes are available and accessible, revealing that shipments of new banknotes are about to arrive in the country. He pointed out the trend of creating new applications that do not require the Internet to conduct bank transfers, but only SMS messages.
In the same context, the Minister of Finance revealed their efforts to get rid of government certificates of Shahamah because they are not profitable for the government.
