Urgent plan to exhume and transport bodies in Khartoum…and authorities urge citizens to report.
The Khartoum State Ministry of Health has approved an urgent plan for a major campaign to exhume and transport bodies across the seven localities of Khartoum State. The plan aims to prevent any health or environmental impacts and to contribute to voluntary return, in implementation of the directives of the Wali (governor) of Khartoum State, Ahmed Osman Hamza.
The Ministry called on citizens to immediately report the locations of bodies and mass graves in any area of the state.
The Ministry announced, through the Forensic Medicine Authority, that approximately 90 percent of the bodies left in the open by the war have been removed.
The meeting held today at the Khartoum State Ministry of Health premises, chaired by the Acting Director General of the Khartoum State Ministry of Health, Ahmed Al-Bashir Fadlallah, directed that details of the plan’s implementation be discussed through the Ministry’s Forensic Medicine Authority, in cooperation with the Civil Defense, the Sudanese Red Crescent Society, and the local health system.
The meeting directed that cases of body transfer be classified. The first and urgent stage will target bodies found in the open, in waterways, shallowly buried, and mass graves, with burials to be carried out in designated cemeteries.
In the subsequent stage, bodies buried legally but forced to be buried in neighborhood squares, schools, mosques, and homes will be transferred.
The meeting, attended by the head of the Khartoum State Forensic Medicine Authority, Dr. Hisham Zain Al-Abidin, and the representative of the Wali of Khartoum, Mahmoud Hassan, ensured that the work will be carried out by five teams, with the presence of the highest public prosecutor in each locality to take the necessary legal action.
The meeting designated the phone number 0123632205 to report the presence of any body in the open or buried on the surface via WhatsApp. Callers must specify their identity and the location of the body.
