Urgent appeal to organizations to save (1680) families from hunger and thirst near El-Fashir

The Supreme Committee for Humanitarian Emergencies in North Darfur State, which includes representatives of national and international organizations, in addition to the concerned government bodies, discussed during its meeting held today at the committee’s headquarters in El-Fashir, the level of interventions required to address the worsening humanitarian crisis resulting from the recent brutal attacks launched by the rebel Al-Dagalo militia on a number of villages in the western countryside of El-Fashir during the past weeks, which led to the displacement of tens of thousands of families from those villages.

The Director General of the Water Sector and member of the Supreme Committee for Humanitarian Emergencies in the state, Engineer Nour El-Din Adam Ahmed, confirmed, in a press statement, that those families are facing difficult conditions after the recent waves of displacement, as the displaced people (IDP) suffer from a severe shortage of basic needs such as water, food and shelter, in addition to poor health services.

He made an urgent appeal to national and international organizations, UN agencies and initiators to intervene quickly to provide the necessary assistance, particularly to the displaced people of Hashaba village (2 km west of El-Fashir), numbering 1680 families. Engineer Adam stressed that the situation in Hashaba village requires an immediate response, stressing the urgent need to provide clean drinking water, food and shelter, in addition to providing urgent health care to those affected.
