U.S. Official: Washington in Contact with Al-Burhan to End the War
A senior official at the U.S. Department of State confirmed that the U.S. administration is in communication with President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC) General Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan, as well as with the commander of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia or their representatives, through various diplomatic channels to end the war.
The U.S. President’s Senior Advisor for African and Middle Eastern Affairs, Massad Boulos, met with Al-Burhan in Switzerland last August, and later held talks with the militia commander.
A few days ago, he also held extensive meetings with African Union officials in the Ethiopian capital regarding the Sudanese crisis.
Boulos, in press statements following a meeting with African Union Commissioner Mahmoud Ali Youssouf at the AU headquarters in Addis Ababa three days ago, affirmed that the roadmap recently adopted by the Quartet Group to end the war in Sudan includes a clear timeline.
The U.S. diplomat, who spoke to Sudan Tribune on condition of anonymity, confirmed that contacts with both parties are ongoing but declined to elaborate on the details of those discussions.
