Tripartite Meeting in Port Sudan Between Sudan, Egypt, and the United Nations

A tripartite meeting was held in Port Sudan on Tuesday between Sudan’s Foreign Minister Mohieddin Salim, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Expatriates Affairs Badr Abdelatty, and UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher.

The discussions focused on ongoing humanitarian efforts in Sudan and ways to strengthen international response to the country’s humanitarian crisis.

Minister Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s firm and consistent position in support of Sudan’s unity, territorial integrity, and sovereignty, while rejecting any schemes aimed at dividing the country. He also underscored the importance of preserving Sudan’s national institutions and safeguarding the resources of the Sudanese people.

He called for enhancing the international response to the current crisis, ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid to the most affected communities, and supporting regional and international efforts aimed at achieving sustainable peace in Sudan and alleviating the humanitarian suffering of its people.

Ambassador Abdelatty emphasized that the humanitarian situation in Sudan continues to receive the close attention of all Egyptian ministries and relevant institutions, in line with the directives of President Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi to provide all possible assistance and support to ease the suffering of the Sudanese people. He highlighted Egypt’s ongoing efforts to facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid into Sudan through its sea, land, and air crossings.

In a related context, Minister Abdelatty praised the openness of Sudan’s Humanitarian Aid Commission (HAC) toward international humanitarian organizations, particularly in facilitating the issuance of visas and travel permits for UN personnel and aid workers operating in affected areas. He noted that this approach has been widely welcomed by numerous international officials and organizations.
