Trial of Hemeidti and Abdel-Rahim in West Darfur Governor’s Killing Case Begins Sunday

The Sudanese Public Prosecution has announced that tomorrow, Sunday, will witness the first session of the trial of Rapid Support Forces (RSF) Commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemeidti), his brother Abdel-Rahim Dagalo, and 14 others in the case of the assassination of the former West Darfur Governor Khamis Abdullah Abkar.
The session will be held at the Anti-Terrorism and Crimes Against the State Court in Portsudan.
The prosecution disclosed that the indictment includes 16 defendants, including Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, Abdel-Rahim Dagalo, Al-Tijani Al-Tahir Karshom, Abdel-Rahman Juma Barakallah, and Abdel-Moneim Abdel-Mahmoud Mohamed Ahmed (Al-Rabie).
The prosecution charged the defendants under several articles of the Sudanese Criminal Code of 1991 (amended in 2009), the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2001, the Anti-Cybercrime Act of 2020, and Article 162 of the Armed Forces Act of 2007.
The prosecution explained that this trial represents an important step toward strengthening the rule of law and combating impunity for serious crimes.
