The Flood Begins: SAF Recaptures Kazgeil and Um Dam Haj Ahmed

The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) launched a swift military operation on Saturday morning, through which it succeeded in retaking the localities of Um Dam Haj Ahmed and Kazgeil in North Kordofan, thereby securing the city of El-Obeid against any potential ground assault.

The SAF had withdrawn from Um Dam Haj Ahmed in late October, one day after losing the strategic town of Bara. Soldiers from the army and allied forces later circulated video footage showing their control over Um Dam Haj Ahmed, located east of Bara.

Military sources told Sudan Tribune that the Armed Forces also regained control of Kazgeil, south of El-Obeid, and is now working to secure the area by deploying defensive positions in anticipation of any potential attack.

The sources added that the army is planning to advance toward Al-Hammadi and Al-Dibaibat, in preparation for breaking the ground blockade imposed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement–North (SPLM–N) led by Abdel Aziz Al-Hilu on Dilling and Kadugli in South Kordofan.
