Terrorism Court hears (14) witnesses in the trial of (16) Janjaweed, including Hemeidti, accused of killing the governor of West Darfur

The trial sessions of the defendants in the case of the killing of the former governor of West Darfur, Khamis Abdullah Abkar, continued before the Anti-Terrorism and Crimes Against the State Court. The court set July 20, 2025, as the date for issuing its decision regarding the charges against the defendants. If convicted, their punishment will reach the death penalty. The National Committee for the Investigation of Crimes and Violations of National and International Humanitarian Law has indicted 16 defendants, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemeidti), Abdel-Rahim Dagalo, and Abdel-Rahman Juma Barakallah. The case was referred to court following the completion of investigations. At the beginning of the session, the court heard the opening speech of the Public Prosecution, delivered by the Attorney General, who reviewed the evidence and proof upon which the Public Prosecution relied. The court heard the testimonies of 14 witnesses who confirmed the facts and attributed them to the defendants. In addition, the investigator presented seven videos as evidence in the case, along with two additional documents in support of the accusation.
After closing the indictment case on June 30, 2025, the court decided to issue its decision on the indictment on July 20. If the indictment is formally filed, the prosecution will present its closing arguments, paving the way for the date for pronouncing the verdict.
