Technical Team Departs Juba for Heglig to Resume Oil Field Operations
A source confirmed that a team of employees working for oil companies departed Juba toward the Heglig area in Sudan’s West Kordofan State to operate the fields and resume pumping crude oil to ports in the east of the country.
The source told Ultra Sudan that the team, which includes employees working for oil companies at the Heglig field, left in recent hours toward Sudanese territory to resume operating the wells that were affected by military developments in West Kordofan.
Government forces affiliated with South Sudan had previously deployed around the Heglig field inside Sudanese territory after the Rapid Support Forces militia took control of the area. A military official in Juba said the move was aimed at securing the oil fields and ensuring the flow of crude oil from South Sudan to ports in the east of the country.
A source from the oil companies operating in Heglig told Ultra Sudan that the team that moved from Juba intends to operate the Heglig oil field, noting that the current security situation now allows the launch of operational activities.
