Summit Between Al-Burhan and El-Sisi in Cairo… Agreement on the “Quartet”

Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi received today, Wednesday, at Al-Ittihadiya Palace, General Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan, President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC) of the Republic of Sudan, on an official visit that came amid the ongoing developments in Sudan and intensified regional and international efforts to cease the war and restore stability.
The meeting was attended by Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration and Egyptians Abroad, Dr. Badr Abdel-Aaty, and Director of General Intelligence, Major General Hassan Rashad, while the Sudanese side was represented by Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mohieldin Salem, and Director General of the General Intelligence Service, General Ahmed Ibrahim Mufaddal.
Presidential Spokesman Counselor Mohamed El-Shennawy stated that President El-Sisi welcomed General Al-Burhan, praising the brotherly and historical relations between Egypt and Sudan and their remarkable development in various fields.
The President reaffirmed Egypt’s firm position on Sudan, foremost of which is supporting its unity, sovereignty, and stability, and rejecting any attempts to threaten its security or create parallel entities to the legitimate government.
He emphasized Egypt’s constant commitment to Sudan’s stability as an integral part of Egypt’s national security.
For his part, General Al-Burhan expressed his great appreciation for Egypt’s supportive role toward Sudan during this critical stage, stressing that the efforts exerted by President El-Sisi reflect the depth of ties between the two peoples and support Sudan’s endeavors to overcome its current crisis and restore security and stability.
The Spokesman added that the talks discussed developments regarding the Quartet Mechanism on Sudan, which includes Egypt, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, and the United States.
Both sides underscored the importance of holding the upcoming Quartet meeting in Washington during October, expressing hope for tangible results that contribute to halting the war and resolving the Sudanese crisis.
The meeting also addressed the issue of Nile waters and the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), where the two presidents reiterated their categorical rejection of any unilateral measures on the Blue Nile that could affect their shared water interests.
They affirmed the unity of the Egyptian-Sudanese stance and the identical visions regarding the Ethiopian dam issue, stressing the need to enhance coordination and consultation between the two countries to protect their water rights in accordance with international law.
