Sudan’s Military Court Acquits Former First Division Commander of “High Treason,” Sentences Him to Five Years in Prison
A military court has sentenced former First Infantry Division Commander, Major General Ahmed Al-Tayib, to five years in prison after convicting him of negligence, while dropping charges of “high treason” due to insufficient evidence. The prison term is effective from the date of the fall of Madani, when the commander was arrested.
According to Sata Post, the treason charges were also dropped against two other officers holding the rank of Brigadier General, who were acquitted. One of them was released, while the other was sentenced to four years in prison on a separate charge.
