Sudanese University Closes Branches in UAE, South Sudan, and Chad
The Open University of Sudan has announced the closure of its branch in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), along with its branches in South Sudan and Chad, in protest against what it described as “the UAE’s aggression against the Sudanese people.”
This came in an official statement issued by the University’s Vice-Chancellor, Abdul-Khalig Fadl Rahmatullah, who confirmed that the decision is in line with the Sudanese state’s orientations and the Security and Defense Council’s decision to classify the UAE as an “aggressive state.”
The university affirmed that it is the first educational institution to take this position, noting that the move represents support for the Sudanese Armed Forces and a stand with the nation and its citizens amid the current circumstances.
The Sudanese leadership has repeatedly accused the UAE of providing logistical and military support to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a claim Abu Dhabi denies.
The Sudanese Security and Defense Council recently announced the classification of the UAE as an “aggressive state,” an indication of escalating tensions between the two countries. This prompted a number of Sudanese institutions to take steps to express their rejection of what they described as “foreign interference in Sudan’s affairs.”
