Sudanese Government: Janjaweed Leader’s Announcement of Humanitarian Truce a Transparent Political Manoeuvre

Sudan’s Minister of Culture, Information, and Tourism Khalid Al Eisir affirmed that the announcement by the leader of the rebellious Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of a three month humanitarian truce is nothing more than a transparent political manoeuvre, starkly contradicting the grim reality of the atrocities his forces have committed on the ground.

Al Eisir wrote on his official Facebook page that the statement made by the rebel leader yesterday, Monday is merely another attempt to deceive the international community and to whitewash an image tarnished by the irrefutable facts of his forces’ ongoing crimes and violations.

The Minister of Information warned that the world must not allow itself to be lured into this misleading narrative. He emphasized that past experiences—including the Jeddah Agreement truces—have shown that the Sudanese army has honoured its commitments, while the militia exploited these truces to smuggle weapons and military supplies for its mercenaries and to achieve military gains at the expense of civilians.

He added that this militia, stripped of all human values, has besieged unarmed civilians, starved them, attacked them with drones in several cities, hanged some from trees, and buried others alive.

The most recent of these horrific crimes occurred in El Fashir and Bara, Al Eisir noted, stressing that the leader’s talk of a “humanitarian truce” cannot be taken seriously or credibly.

He continued: “The entire world has witnessed the scale of military equipment and ammunition the militia brought into densely populated cities during truce periods, including the capital Khartoum, before fleeing.”

The Minister stressed that the clear truth is that those who commit killings, sieges, and sexual assaults cannot make peace, do not uphold any human values, and those who break agreements cannot be trusted.

Al Eisir affirmed that the international community must recognize the nature of this transparent manoeuvre, prioritize the suffering of the Sudanese people over political or propaganda considerations, and pressure the militia to implement the roadmap submitted to the United Nations by President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, as the most effective means to end suffering and eradicate the root causes of the war through a permanent truce based on objective principles that respond to the aspirations of the Sudanese people and all peoples yearning for peace.
