Sudanese Army Strikes Rapid Support Forces in Kordofan and Darfur
The Sudanese Armed Forces launched intensive airstrikes on Rapid Support Forces (RSF) positions in the Kordofan and Darfur regions, targeting logistical supplies crossing the borders, as well as gatherings and troop concentrations planning to advance toward army-controlled cities in Kordofan, particularly in the north, and in Darfur near the far borders of Chad.
In recent days, the army has concentrated its surprise attacks mainly on sites in eastern Kordofan, especially in Jabrat al-Sheikh, Om Sayala, and Om Garfa. The airstrikes reportedly inflicted heavy losses on the RSF militia, particularly on military vehicles observed burning amid rising flames.
A military source told Al Jazeera that the armed forces are working to reclaim all territories in North Kordofan, especially those in the east bordering Khartoum state, such as Jabrat al-Sheikh.
The source added that the army inflicted severe damage on the RSF militia in North Kordofan, culminating in the recapture of Bara, the state’s second-largest city, last week.
The source explained that the airstrikes have tightened the noose around RSF forces in Jabrat al-Sheikh and Om Sayala, with swift attacks on these cities expected at any moment. The army is determined to “clear all cities in eastern Kordofan and fully secure the rear of Sudan’s capital, Khartoum.”
Meanwhile, the army’s drone strikes last week were described as the most intense and extensive in weeks.
A military source told Al Jazeera that the armed forces succeeded in destroying the RSF’s main strength in West Kordofan, which has been entirely under RSF control.
According to the source, drone strikes targeted RSF positions in the cities of Al-Fula, Al-Nuhud, Abu Zabad, Al-Sunot, Al-Majlad, and Babanusa in West Kordofan. The attacks destroyed over 100 combat vehicles, along with ammunition and fuel estimated in the thousands of liters.
